The East Kootenay’s road maintenance contractor says they are ready for the coming winter season.
Mainroad’s Communication specialist Niki Taylor discussed preparations for the coming winter on Friday.
She also unveiled two videos showcasing their employees and what they do to plough and de-ice highways.
General manager Andries De Witt says new men have been brought onto the team to make sure none of the employees are overworked.
“I think the last winters really took it’s toll on the personnel,” De Witt says. “We essentially added more personnel to the roster, and that would give the flexibility to rotate the guys as the season goes.”
Project manager Richard Douglas says the most helpful thing residents can do is wave and give encouragement to the workers.
De Witt also addressed the frequent complaint from residents saying they don’t see Mainroad at work.
He says they plan on developing their social media presence to combat this.
“We are going to be launching a more active campaign,” De Witt says. “Getting pictures to show people that we’re out there before a storm hits, in process and in a storm currently.”
