Area F’s Volunteer of the Year has been elected to serve her community of Invermere on District Council.
Kayja Becker has organized and run the children’s section of the Fall Fair for many years and has served as a member of the Community Foundation Board.
Becker’s passion for volunteer work and her community were large factors in her campaign , which she won with over 800 votes.
She says she has wanted to be a member of the council for several years and has used the past four years to illustrate what she could do.
“I think people wanted change,” Becker says. “And they’ve seen what I’ve done in the community the past four years, that shows I’m really involved and I care about this town. This is something I want to do for Invermere.”
Becker had previously run for council in 2014 but was narrowly defeated.
