The new Kimberley City Councillor was sworn into office last night at a ceremony at the city’s Conference and Athlete Training Center.
New faces to the Council table included Councillors Kyle Dalum and Jason McBain.
McBain says he’s excited to get started.
“To be involved in the community and kind of be involved as a sounding board for the citizens of Kimberley, I wasn’t nervous about it at all,” McBain says. “I think its kind of a fun night where everyone can get up here and be presented in front of the group, so there was no nervousness. Its an exciting time.”
Dalum attended council meetings on a regular basis leading up to the election.
He says he’s looking forward to giving his input on public issues.
“I think its an incredible honour to be able to participate in this kind of giving back to the community,” Dalum says. “Definitely looking forward to it, but its hard to break the habit of being in council chambers keeping my thoughts to myself being on the other side of the room. Its a little bit of a shift.”
The two councillors join Sandra Roberts, Nigel Kitto, Kent Goodwin and Darryl Oakley, who were all re-elected to council chambers.
Mayor Don McCormick also spoke on the accomplishments of the past council and his goals with a new term.
Their first official meeting at Kimberley City Hall is planned for next Tuesday.
