A group in Fernie is working with the BC Government to provide homes for those in need.
The Fernie Family Housing Society was formed in 2000 with the primary goal of working with BC housing to produce affordable housing in the community for low income families, seniors, and people with disabilities.
In their 18 years of operation the society has opened the 27 unit Tom Uphill manor and the 32 unit New Horizon Village.
Since November of 2017, the society has been working with BC Housing create a new location in the vacant lot adjacent from Uphill Manor.
With the help of BC Housing’s new Community Housing Fund Program, the society hopes to begin development soon.
The society advises residents to keep their ears open for an Open House planned for January to discuss the project.
