A local Facebook group wants to make sure no child goes without support this Christmas season.
Paying It Forward – Kindness in the Kootenays is organizing their Santa Family Program for a fourth year.
Organizer Aileen Wilson says they’ve been organizing this program for four years, trying to help parents in need provide Christmas presents for their children.
She says their group wants to make sure no families fall through the cracks.
“There was a lot of families in the community that didn’t qualify for a lot of the supports and stuff that are here in town, because they aren’t on income assistance or that sort of thing,” Wilson says. “Single parents working one or two entry level jobs trying to support their families and make ends meet.”
Wilson says they want to match up children in need with a Santa Sponsor to make sure they get a new pair of pajamas and a toy for Christmas.
“In my mind, every kid needs a new pair of pajamas at Christmas time. That’s my thing,” Wilson says. “We look for sponsor families and they can sponsor just one child, or they can sponsor two or three. They can sponsor a whole family that includes Mom and Dad, that’s entirely the sponsor family’s choice.”
Wilson says many of the families they’ve helped have been devastated by illness or hardship.
Families who would like to take part can reach out to Aileen Wilson at (250) 464-1008 or reach out to her via private message on Facebook.
