A Cranbrook athlete is hoping to represent Canada at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.
Stefanie Schoenberger was inspired by the bobsledding events at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games to train and compete in the sport.
She’s currently representing Canada in the North American Cup circuit and hopes to compete for the country on the international stage in 2022.
Schoenberger has always wanted to compete in a sport internationally, but never thought it would be in a bobsleigh.
“I’ve been in competitive sports for my entire life and kind of competing in the Olympics has always been a life goal of mine,” Schoenberger says. “I started to kind of look at these bobsled athletes, these women competing in the sport and I was like ‘I’m kind of built the same’ and thought maybe I should give it a go.”
Schoenberger has started a GoFundMe page to help her cover team fees and expenses.
“This year alone, the team fee is $3,000 and each year, it will be similar moving forward,” Schoenberger says. “So this fundraiser is kind of just to help cover some of the costs of this over the next three years, so I can concentrate on training and becoming the best athlete that I can be.”
