With winter approaching and the mountains filling with snow, residents need to be cautious of the threat of avalanches.
Avalanche Canada provides information and tips on how to avoid, or if necessary, survive an avalanche.
Forecaster Mike Conlan says we currently are in avalanche season and we need to be prepared.
“Make sure you have the proper training,” Conlan says. “Proper equipment would be an avalanche transceiver, a probe, and a shovel. It’s a great time to practice some rescue scenarios down in a parking lot, make sure your skills are up to speed for heading out into the mountains.”
Avalanche Canada will release it’s first avalanche forecast at 5:00 pm tomorrow afternoon.

The organization has also secured a $25 million grant from the Federal government.
We’ll have more on that later.
