The SPCA East Kootenay Branch is seeking donations to help one of their animals.
Cheeks is a six-year-old tabby cat who was brought to the shelter recently by a good samaritan.
Branch manager Christy King says Cheeks has likely been living on the streets his whole life, and has a lot of scars from fights.
He got his name because of his swollen cheeks caused by fractures in his teeth.
“He was found after living on the streets in Elkford,” says King. “We could tell right away that Cheeks was sore, he wasn’t too happy with us looking in his mouth, and when we did get a look we saw that all four of his canine teeth were fractured.”
King says Cheeks is unable to groom because of his injuries which has left his fur matted, especially along his back.
“His mouth is so sore that he hasn’t been grooming so we’re going to take care of that too, we’re going to shave those mats off and give him a fresh start, and hopefully once he feels better he’ll be back to grooming.”
His estimated vet bill is $1,800, King says 12% of that figure has been raised since yesterday.
