Cranbrook City Council has granted approval for a cannabis retail store to operate in the city.
Last night council approved the rezoning of shopping center C-5 zone which is near Save on Foods.
This will allow a cannabis store to be established in that area, an applicant had requested to set up shop there.
Councillor Danielle Eaton says now that the rezoning has been approved the matter is out of council’s hands and the store’s application is up to the provincial government.
“The province will decide everything from here,” Eaton says. “I believe our council is confident in the structure and the process that the government has set up for these stores.”
Council had previously approved cannabis stores to be located in downtown commercial zones C-1 and C-2.
