The City of Cranbrook is warning residents once again about the safety of thin ice on area lakes.
This as residents have been found putting a hockey net on ice surfaces at Idlewild Lake within 30 metres of open water.
City staff warn ice needs to be at least six inches thick to be safe for children and adults to play on.
The city is concerned about ice surfaces on Idlewild Lake, Elizabeth Lake, Joseph Creek and other local water bodies.
Thin ice poses a significant danger to children and parents are being urged to lead by example and keep your kids safe.
Public Works will be installing outdoor rinks again this year around the community as temperature allows.
