The BC Government has completed a study to gauge the province’s homelessness levels.
BC’s first ever province wide homeless count, divided the province into 24 communities, including Cranbrook.
Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Shane Simpson says at least 29 people are homeless in Cranbrook.
“Two thirds men,” Simpson says “About 48% indigenous community. We were able to identify folks in you’re community who are struggling with homelessness and having a place to live.”
According to the report at least 7,655 people are homeless in the province.
Two thirds are moving from house to house, while the rest are directly on the streets.
Simpson says the report was made to help the government prepare for a homeless action plan to be announced in the new year.
