Invermere residents gave District Council a clear mandate for the Lake Windermere Resort Lands in 2019.
Mayor Al Miller says they plan to get to work on that project as soon as possible.
He says the land has been sitting vacant for the last 20 years and he wants to see it move forward.
“Its a costly project, so we need to figure out a way that we can purchase that property and make it viable for all of our constituents without putting a heavy burden on them,” Miller says. “Have something that’s truly a showpiece there, not only for welcoming visitors, but for our own citizens.”
Miller would like to see park space and some residential properties developed in that land.
He also says they need to address rental availability and affordable housing as soon as possible.
“This is a project that many communities are going through, having something that’s affordable for people to live while they are working here,” Miller says. “I’m putting together a committee on rentals and one on attainable housing.”
Miller hopes they can address this province wide issue in his community in 2019.
