The District of Sparwood is seeking a significant funding injection to help provide a source of clean water throughout the community.
Mayor David Wilks says they’re applying for a $7 million grant through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, Rural and Northern Communities.
“The grant is to complete a water looping project at Douglas Fir Road and Sparwood Drive so we have connectivity to water,” says Wilks. ” Also to provide Douglas Fir Road with water which has never been since the inception of Sparwood.”
Wilks says ensuring Douglas Fir Road has a water source is especially important.
The district is setting aside $871,000 for the project, and the grant would cover the rest.
Wilks says work could start in the spring if the grant is approved.
