Amplify East Kootenay is serving as a spotlight for businesses throughout the region.
Today, we look at Meraki Mechanical in Cranbrook.
Why have our listeners nominated this business? – “They are a locally owned family run business that goes above and beyond for their community.”
How do listeners feel this business has amplified the community? – “This business has made a great impact on this community. In the month of April, they gave away gift certificates to local restaurants to help them out during these hard times. They offer a repair assistance program to help people in need and get them back on the road. They also offer a workshop to give people some basic automotive skills. They are amazing at their jobs and what they do for this community.”
Meraki Mechanical is a family owned and operated vehicle repair shop in Cranbrook that cares about providing good customer service and high-quality, affordable repairs.
Owner and Administrator Cara Campen says her husband Steve has a passion for automotive repair, ranging from classic hot rods to modern vehicles.
Campen adds their business has provided a number of ways to support car owners with their vehicle’s maintenance, including offering help to those in financial need.
“We set up an automotive repair assistance program that helps provide maintenance and safety repairs for people with low or no income,” Campen says. “So its just a program that people can apply for and we just get parts at a lower cost for the program and then we do the labor for free.”
Meraki Mechanical also supports car owners in need through hosting car care workshops.
“We started a free car care workshop, which is just a short class to provide basic information on vehicle maintenance to anyone interested in learning about vehicles,” Campen says. “Just so that everybody can feel safe in their vehicle and then they are not afraid to take it into a shop because they have a basic knowledge of car maintenance.”
They also find free or low cost vehicles that need minor repairs to fix and give away to people in need.
Campen says their support programs stem from a love of the community and wanting to do what they can to support local causes.
She adds her and her husband Steve tried to step up during the COVID-19 pandemic to support local restaurants.
“We personally went out and bought over $1,000 in gift certificates to various restaurants and just gave them away on Facebook to try and encourage people to eat locally,” Campen says.
